About Star Wars Naming

Star Wars naming works by giving every species and faction its own sound. Core Worlds humans get clipped, vaguely British-sounding surnames. Twi'leks get flowing given names paired with a clan name. Wookiees get names built from growls. Mandalorians get hard consonants and a clan.

Sith names are the outlier: a Sith discards the birth name entirely and takes a title, which is why they land so much harder than everything else in the galaxy.

The Patterns By Group

  • Jedi — short given name, plain surname, nothing ornate
  • Sith — a title, not a name, built from menace
  • Mandalorian — hard consonants plus a clan name
  • Droid — letters and digits, occasionally a nickname

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these official Star Wars names?▼
No. This is an independent fan tool with no connection to Lucasfilm. It generates original names following the naming conventions each species and faction uses, rather than reusing established characters.
How do Sith names work?▼
A Sith abandons their birth name and takes a title beginning with Darth, followed by a word chosen for what it threatens. The name is meant to be a statement rather than an identifier.
What do Mandalorian names look like?▼
Hard consonants in the given name, followed by a clan name. Clan matters more than the individual in Mandalorian culture, so the second half of the name carries the weight.
Can I use these for an RPG character?▼
Yes. These suit tabletop campaigns, video game characters and fan fiction. Everything generated is original and free to use however you like.
