About Monster Hunter Naming

Monster Hunter is a two-name setting. Hunters get short, functional names that sound like they belong on a Guild roster. Palicoes get puns, and the game fully expects it — a Palico name that is not a cat joke is the odd one out.

Wyverians, being extremely long-lived, get names with weight and an honorific, usually with an Elder attached somewhere.

MythicNames is an independent fan tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Capcom. Names are procedurally generated and free to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a name limit in Monster Hunter?▼
The character name field is short but the games are single-player, so nothing is at stake beyond fitting the box. These names are kept brief for that reason.
Why are Palico names puns?▼
Because the series leans into it. Palico naming is openly comic, and a cat pun is the convention rather than the exception.
What do Wyverian names sound like?▼
Long-lived and formal, usually with an honorific. They carry more weight than hunter names because Wyverians have been around considerably longer.
Can I use these for other games?▼
Yes. The hunter names in particular are generic enough to work in any fantasy setting with a guild or a mercenary company.
